We assist with the protection of over 1,000,000 square kilometers of Australia - an expanse incorporating no less than three World Heritage Areas, including the Wet Tropics and the Great Barrier Reef, along with all of the other astounding ecosystems that make up this remarkable area known as Northern Queensland.
We cover all or part of seven Natural Resource Management (NRM) Groups which operate in Northern Queensland:
- Torres Strait Regional Authority;
- Cape York NRM;
- Northern Gulf Resource Management Group;
- Terrain NRM;
- Southern Gulf Catchments;
- NQ Dry Tropics;
- Reef Catchments.
In recognition of the natural synergy between EDO NQ and RMGs in having sustainable development and environmental protection as core objects, in mid-2013 EDO NQ invited the Northern Queensland NRMs to take a seat on the Management Committee of EDO NQ, and the Constitution was duly altered and approved by the Federal Attorney-General.
The intention is that NRM CEOs will rotate in the NRM Group seat on an annual basis.
Grant Fawcett, CEO of the Northern Gulf NRM Group, is the first incumbent in this role, and we welcome him to the Management Committee.
