EDO NQ Facing Has Some Funding Restored

Just before Christmas 2013 – without warning – the Federal Government told EDO NQ and other EDOs across the country that it was breaking its four-year commitment to fund EDOs - effective immediately!

This unexpected loss of $175,000 in the 2013-14 financial year and $450,000 in the 2014-15 financial year was extremely disappointing.

Taking away such major funding severely limits our ability to help you and your community to address your local environmental issues. We know, because you’ve told us before, that without our expertise and guidance, the enforcement and effectiveness of our environmental laws will be severely weakened and grassroots communities will struggle to take on government and industry on their own.

However, the restoration of some State funding in 2015-16 by the new ALP Queensland government has given us the capacity to employ a part time Principal Solicitor and Office Manager and partially restore the level of services we had in late 2013. We’re determined to find a way to remain a strong voice for local communities and the environment. But we will need your ongoing support. Please give generously so EDO NQ can continue to help your community stand up for your local environment.

As always, we thank you for your support.
