- a charitable entity

EDO NQ is a charitable entity in accordance with s12(j) of the Charities Act 2013 (Cth).

In this Act, s12 (2) affirms the right of specified charities (including EDO NQ) to promote or oppose "a change to any matter established by law, policy or practice in the Commonwealth, a State, a Territory or another country".

In other words (and contrary to the view of the current fFderal Attorney-General, George Brandis), a fundamental role of any charity which fulfills the requirements of the Act is to engage in acitivites related to law reform.

The power to advocate on behalf of the community for improved law and access to justice is a fundamental aspect of any free democracy.
